THE LAUNCHING OF THE DIGITALISATION OF CIVIL STATUS REGISTRATION

 The Bamenda III Council has taken a major step toward modern public administration with the official launch of plans to fully digitalise its civil status registry.The announcement was made by the Mayor, Mr. Fongu Cletus Tanwe, during the statutory Council Session held on December 23, 2025, where the 2026 programme budget was adopted. A new  civil status office can be seen just behind the newly constructed ceremonial hall. The facility will be equipped with computers, digital systems, and a solar power backup to ensure uninterrupted service delivery. For years, residents of Bamenda III have faced challenges with slow processing times, missing records, and bureaucratic bottlenecks tied to paper-based registration of births, marriages, and deaths. “This digitalisation drive is aimed at solving those long-standing problems,” Mayor Tanwe stated. “With computerised registration and electronic issuance of documents, we will deliver faster services and guarantee the integrity of our records. The digitalisation project is part of Bamenda III’s 2026 flagship development agenda and aligns with national reforms that now allow civil status documents to be delivered in both printed and digital formats with equal legal validity.  The new system will make it easier for residents to obtain birth, marriage, and death certificates needed for schooling, employment, travel, and access to social services.The Council reaffirms its commitment to bringing public services closer to the people through innovation, transparency, and efficiency
